Alberta Oil…and More workshop

The "Alberta…Oil and More" workshop in Orlando, Florida, on March 22, 2007, at the international conference World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing, addressed the current and future opportunities for Alberta to succeed in the business of the bioeconomy. Denis Herard, MLA and co-chair of the Alberta Life Sciences Institute, chaired the session and gave an overview of Alberta’s economic strengths, derived from its energy sources, and its resulting abilities to develop a strong bioeconomy sector. Dr. Stan Blade, Managing Director of the Alberta Agricultural Research Institute, reviewed some of the innovative agricultural research projects which are presently happening in the province. He was followed by Len Bykowski, President and CEO of BioProducts Alberta, who presented his analysis of the great business investment opportunities, as Alberta focuses on becoming a leading jurisdiction in the developing global bioeconomy.
